Cookies and Cream Protein Poppers

Cookies and cream is a long-time favorite flavor of mine, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s one of yours too.

I don’t know about you, but my love affair with the classic combination began with the Hershey’s Cookies ‘n’ Creme candy bar. When I was younger, my dad would take my brother and I to see a movie almost every Friday night. Lucky for us, Kmart was located next to the theater and sold almost every candy imaginable for a dollar or less, including Hershey’s bars, Wonder Balls, Reese’s Pieces, Sno-Caps and Ring Pops.

After choosing one candy each, my brother and I would run to the ICEE machine and make a complete mess while creating the perfect swirly mixture of flavors. (Coca-Cola and Red Cherry for the win!)

Good times. Good times.

Anyway, an intense craving for anything cookies and cream hit me hard Friday afternoon, but I knew eating a bar of chocolate probably wasn’t the best idea if I didn’t want to feel nauseous for the rest of the day. Determined not give in to the craving, I put on my thinking cap and scoured the kitchen for a way to recreate the flavor in a healthier way. Here’s what I came up with.

Cookies and Cream Protein Poppers

These little poppers are just that – perfect for “popping” in your mouth to refuel from a workout, enjoy after a meal, or give you just enough energy to survive the mid-afternoon slump.
I froze my bites for three hours in a large plastic container and then placed them in the fridge for quick access. Needless to say, it wasn’t long before my brother came home from work and popped a few balls in his mouth. According to him, the poppers taste like Dunkin’ Donuts Munchkins
upon first bite but impart a cookie dough flavor after you finish eating them.
Note to self: Always ask Tyler to taste-test my recipes because his descriptions are far more entertaining than my own.
