Friday’s Favorites: Food and Fitness Finds for the New Year

If you indulged a bit too much during the holidays, have no fear. Below you’ll find my new favorite food and fitness products to get you back into the healthy living gear.

Nike Training Club App

Without group fitness classes and a gym during the holidays, I was looking for inspiration to complete at-home workouts. Can I just say I’m obsessed?!? It’s like having a personal trainer without paying a dime.

If you’re not familiar with the app, you pick a workout based on your fitness goals and experience level. Most are circuit-style. Then, the app tells you what exercise to perform and how long to perform it. You hear a beep from the timer when it’s time to move on to the next exercise.

Did I mention you can set music to the workout? You can also earn rewards after completing a certain number of minutes.

Thanks, Nike. I have a feeling I’m going to sweat even more in 2014 than I did last year.

APS Pumpkin Spice 100% Grass-Fed Whey Protein (used to make Chocolate Protein Frosting)

Once again, my friends at APS amaze me with their delicious protein powder. I thought the Banana Creme mixed into my hot buckwheat cereal was divine, but this pumpkin spice stuff is something else. It tastes like pumpkin pie . . . literally. 

As you can see, I mixed a scoop of this whey powder with 2 tablespoons almond milk, 2 tablespoons Greek yogurt, 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder and 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice to make healthy chocolate “frosting.” I like eating the frosting by the spoonful as a snack, but it tastes even better on top of a pancake, which you can see below . . .

Egg White and Oatmeal Protein Pancake

I’ve seen Julie eat this pancake a bazillion times for breakfast since she posted the recipe in September. I’m always on the lookout for protein-packed recipes, so I thought it was probably worth trying considering it’s made with a whole cup of egg whites.

Let me tell you. This pancake is crazy simple but oh-so-delicious. If 2013 was the year of smoothies, I have a feeling 2014 will be the year of protein pancakes.  

V8 Low Sodium 100% Vegetable Juice 

My brother drinks about a half a bottle of this stuff EVERY DAY. We buy it in bulk at Sam’s Club, and I get a workout simply by loading it on the cart.

At first I thought he was insane, but then I realized how easy it is to sneak in a few extra servings of veggies by simply drinking a glass of this juice. I just try to make sure I buy the low sodium version so I’m not blowing up like a balloon.

Fabletics Workout Clothes

C9 by Champion Women’s Compression Bike Short

I just finished raving about Fabletics, but Target also has some great workout clothes now. I ordered two pairs of these compression bike shorts (one pair in dark grey and one in hot pink) just before Christmas when they were majorly on sale.

The shorts don’t ride up or fall down and are good for any type of exercise. I’m dying to buy the pair pictured above and a pair of these leggings or capris in a similar turquoise blue print for spin classes.

  1. Ahh we love so many of the same things! How great is Fabletics, right? I've been meaning to try Julie's protein pancake and I think you've just convinced me to definitely make it this weekend!

  2. Fabletics is amazing!!! I have to stop myself from spending too much money on that site, hehe. You could even try the pancake on a weekday morning. It takes less than 5 minutes to prepare and cook! Thanks for commenting 🙂
