Most people don’t work out while on vacation, but I think it’s safe to say I’m not most people.
This room service receipt from my cruise last week = exhibit A
My BFF and I took a cruise last week to celebrate graduating from college. We ordered sandwiches for dinner on the final night of our vacation because we felt too lazy to leave the room. I wanted to make sure I got my fill of the nutty stuff, so I said on the phone when ordering that I wanted “a lot of peanut butter.”
Room service delivered.
I’ll be 22 in August but will never outgrow PB & J sandwiches, especially when they’re toasted! Nicely done, Carnival Cruise Lines. Nicely done.
Anyhoo, in addition to eating, getting sweaty is something I enjoy and look forward to doing four or five days out of the week. Working out isn’t a chore for me, so I don’t see vacations as an excuse to forget about exercising.
I’ve been on numerous cruises and found I actually have more time to work out than usual while sailing the seven seas. No commitments and access to a gym on the boat means there’s more time for fitness.
I didn’t plan anything specific but actually completed four workouts during our six-day cruise. I exercised in the afternoons when most of the restaurants were closed, so I’m glad I brought some goodies on board the Carnival Paradise from my friends at Vega Sport.
Cruise food is delicious, but healthy options aren’t available around-the-clock, so I made sure to bring these Vega Sport Vanilla Recovery Performance Protein packets on the boat.
After realizing most buffets were closed when I needed to refuel, I made sure to take food from the breakfast or lunch buffets and keep it in our room. I mainly took mini cereal boxes and milk so I could make protein-packed bowls like this one post workout.
Cheerios + 2% milk + protein powder = a super unattractive but super tasty bowl of cereal
I usually ate dinner about two hours after working out, so this snack kept me full and my muscles properly refueled until then. After all, biceps don’t grow on trees.

I obviously enjoyed some treats in terms of food and drinks on the cruise, as evidenced by the above picture. I’m a huge advocate for everything in moderation, so there’s no way I was skipping cocktails and special meals . . .
Omelet + french toast covered in Honey Nut Cheerios!
Cheers to real margaritas on the beach.

I think I ate nearly a plate-full of of the homemade guacamole alone.
The Vega Sport Vanilla Recovery Performance Protein definitely helped me refuel quickly so I could enjoy days like the one above relaxing. You can buy the protein packets to take with you to work, school or on vacation like me on the Vega Sport website.
